Festival atmosphere

Easter Festival 2019

Stars on the Oos: once again this year, the whole of Baden-Baden will be the stage for famous musicians and singers during the Easter Festival, which is taking place from 13 to 22 April 2019. There will be powerful, dynamic and grandiose trumpets, violins, grand pianos and trombones, but also fine chamber concerts. When members of the Berliner Philharmonic fill the city’s most beautiful venues with music, the city on the Oos reaches a unique fever pitch. Music is not only played in the Festspielhaus: it’s also to be heard in the Stiftskirche, at the Rathaus (city hall), in the Lutherkirche, Kurhaus, Frieder Burda Museum and the grand Florentinersaal of the famous Casino, which Tolstoy and Dostoevsky once raved about.

Lang Lang

This year, three star conductors will deliver musical delights. Daniele Gatti will conduct the Berlin Philharmonic for the opening premiere of Otello at the Festspielhaus. In addition, the world-class orchestra will also interpret Verdi’s Requiem twice under the direction of Riccardo Muti. Vittoria Yeo, Elīna Garanča, Francesco Meli and Ildar Abdrazakov will be performing as soloists. Principal conductor designate of the Berlin Philharmonic, Kirill Petrenko, will conduct soloists Lang Lang and Patricia Kopatchinskaja in works by Schoenberg, Tchaikovsky and Beethoven, making the concert hall resound. The chamber opera Clara by the American composer Victoria Bond will be premiered at the Easter Festival. She composed the opera about the most famous inhabitant of the city, the composer Clara Schumann, in Baden-Baden’s Brahms house. The children’s opera The little Fellow and Otello was composed especially for the Easter Festival.
