it's simply wonderful to finally welcome you back with us. For more than half a year we had to close. It was incredibly sad and also dramatic to walk alone through our beautiful hotels during the lockdown. Our whole family lives either in or near the park. Every day we met to discuss the situation. And it we often walked alone through the corridors, without the usual laughter of the children or the sounds of the animated conversations around us. I will never forget this long time without you. But I will also always remember the encouragement we received from you, especially during this time. From many, many letters and emails we realised how much you also missed your stay with us. That continued to give us new strength. Children even sent their savings, from 5.20 to 11.10 EUR. Directly for our first opening day there were 50,000 ticket requests.
Now our operations are up and running again. While there are regulations that we all have to abide by, I am sure that staying with us will allow you to have a breather with us. The experience of the past year has been extremely positive. At that time, 2.5 million people came to us, no infections were reported. Enjoy your time with us, in the hotels, in the park and in Rulantica. The Mack family and all our staff are so happy to have you back.
