Most beautiful tower on earth
Freiburg and its cathedral simply belong together. Even during a heavy air raid in World War II, the approximately 700-year-old cathedral miraculously remained standing. However, work is always needed on the cathedral: Such buildings, which are meant to last forever, would be left to decay without ongoing reconstruction. Between 2006 and 2018, the Münsterbauverein, which is responsible for these works, faced
its greatest challenge: experts had determined that the airily constructed 40-meter-high spire was at risk.

The restauration on the “most beautiful tower on earth,” as the Swiss art historian Jacob Burckhardt (1818-1897) called it, has long since succeeded and cost around 11.5 million euros. About half of the sum was covered by donations. One of the most committed supporters - not only for the renovation of the tower, but beyond - is the Mack family.

For Europa-Park boss Roland Mack in particular, the Minster is a matter close to his heart, partly because he was born in Freiburg‘s Elisabeth Hospital: “No matter where I am in the area, I look for the Minster Tower and see if I can spot it. For me, it‘s a very emotional symbol of our homeland.
